MALTASPORT GETS TO KNOW...RYAN FENECH

Footballers answer many questions at each match, but how much do we know about their lives away from the pitch? Maltasport.com is on a mission to find out more, continuing with Balzan Youths and Malta international Ryan Fenech.

The 31-year old midfielder, started his playing career with his hometown Hamrun Spartans in season 2002-03.

Before joining his current team Balzan in season 2015-16, he played also for Sliema Wanderers and Valletta.

With Valletta, Fenech won the Premier League on three occassions and also the FA Trophy in 2013-14, were in this season he was instrumental in helping the Citizens claiming the “Double”, besides also being chosen MFA Footballer of the Year.

Fenech is married to Elishia and have a daughter. He prefers to be with his family, wife and daughter Jael. He loves watching some true story movies and series and playing the PlayStation with a friend online. Besides the Malta international is a coffee lover.

Describe your perfect day…
Usually I wakeup, get ready for work or training, once ready I take my daughter to school. Being with my family is perfect for me.

What's the best decision you've ever made?
On a football note back 11 years back I stopped working so I chad the opportunity to train mornings and evenings with the national team. On a personal note my decision to build my own family was definitely my best decision ever.

What's the biggest mistake you've ever made?
I never regret nothing I decided to do although I always learn from some mistakes or decisions taken.

How long do you spend getting ready in the morning?
Not very long. 10/15 mins maximum

Do you prefer a lie in or an afternoon nap?
Afternoon nap

Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Night in

What's worse, a traffic jam or airport queuing?
Traffic Jam

How do you kill time at an airport?
I usually go early avoid queuing and take coffee

What's the best prank you've played on someone?
A call on a friend of mine recently, telling him he was steeling wi-fi.

What would your karaoke song be?
Cannot sing.

How many languages can you speak?
I can speak good English, Italian and Maltese.

Which language would you most like to learn?
Spanish

Do you prefer sweet or savoury food?
Sweet definitely.

One meal, one drink. What would you choose?
Red meat and Coca Cola.

What's your favourite film?
Gladiator

What's your favourite singer/band?
Ed Sheeran at the moment.

Summer or winter?
I love both, but I prefer winter.

Who's the funniest team-mate you've ever had?
Alan Silva Souza

Who's the best Maltese footballer you've played against?
I have to choose Andrew Cohen.

When was your debut in the Premier League and with the national team?
Premier League: 5th April 2003 my full debut with Hamrun Spartans.
National team: 2nd February 2008 against Armenia. Since then he made 49 appearances, scoring one goal.

What's your best match in the Premier League and with Malta?
In the Premier League, I have to choose my debut with Valletta on 29th January, 2011 when scoring a brace in the 4-1 win against Sliema Wanderers, while with the national team against Ukraine in a friendly international on 6th June 2017, in which Malta won 1-0.

What was the most beautiful goal ever scored?
Again my debut with Valletta when scoring the second with a rising shot.

Last question. As we are in the year of the FIFA World Cup, who do you think will lift the trophy?
I go for Germany.
