MALTASPORT GETS TO KNOW...BLANCHE COPPOLA

Sportsmen and sportswomen answer many questions after each event they take part in, but how much do we know about their lives away from their disciplines? Maltasport.com is on a mission to find out more, continuing with World Champion Blanche Coppola.

2017 was a very successful one for Coppola as she together with Ralph Decelis were crowned World champions in the Mixed Pairs’ Category for the second time. Besides after their victory in Canada in 2014, this time the Maltese duo won the Gold medal in Biarritz, France.

On an individual basis, Coppola won the Bronze medal at the Masters’ World Championships in Romania, Gold at the Diamond Cup Rome, Silver at the Diamond Cup Athens and another Silver at the Diamond Cup Milan. She also placed fifth in the Seniors World Championships.

Describe your perfect day…
Waking up without an alarm, gym time and spending quality time with family and friends without the pressure of a fixed schedule.

Taking up Bodybuilding and Fitness on a competitive level. This sport has thought me a lot about myself and helped me build self-confidence, discipline and discover my own capabilities.

Difficult to say, I see mistakes as a learning opportunity… if I can bring out something positive from a negative experience then I don’t see it as a mistake.

Forty-five minutes but I am not a morning person so a good part of it is spent trying to wake up with plenty of coffee! Then quick shower and skincare routine and I’m off.

Definitely an afternoon nap.

Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Either option, it depends on the mood and the company I am in, my training schedule and the time of year whether I am preparing for a competition or not.

Traffic jam hands down.

How do you kill time at an airport?
Reading a book.

What's the funniest thing you've ever done?
Tripping in my bridesmaid gown and falling face first in church at a family wedding, I didn’t think it was funny, but the guest did find it hilarious.

What would your karaoke song be?
Gloria Gaynor’s, I Will Survive.

How many languages can you speak?
I can speak three languages fluently.

Which language would you most like to learn?
Spanish has been in my bucket list for a while.

Do you prefer sweet or savoury food?
Savoury food.

One meal, one drink. What would you choose?
Pizza and coffee.

My first competition was in April 2010

What's your best result achieved locally and in the international scene so far?
Locally: IFBB National Champion 2010 and 2011.

Internationally: Overall Women’s Physique Winner IFBB Diamond Cup Rome 2017 and Gold Medal in the Mixed Pairs Category together with Ralph Decelis in the 2017 and 2014 IFBB World Championships

Last question. What's your best-ever contest?

On an individual level the 2017 Diamond Cup in Rome where not only I won the overall title in my category but also my qualification to apply for the IFBB Elite Professional licence.

On team level it’s the 2017 World Fitness Championships, who together with Ralph Decelis, we won Gold in the Mixed Pairs’ Category. Besides, hearing the Maltese Anthem at the most prestigious event of the year in our sport is an emotion which is hard to describe.
