MALTASPORT GETS TO KNOW... STEVE BORG

Footballers answer many questions at each match, but how much do we know about their lives away from the pitch? Maltasport.com is on a mission to find out more, continuing with Malta international and Valletta’s defender Steve Borg.

The 29-year old, who joined the Citizens in July 2009 from Mosta won with his current club the two major competitions in Maltese football, that is, the Premier League on three occasions and the FA Trophy twice, while making 32 appearances with the national team.

Describe your perfect day....
The perfect day is waking up for a recovery session after a win of an important match. Have lunch with my team-mates and spend the rest of the day with my family and close friends. It doesn’t matter if we go out or not at night, the most important thing is that I have good company!

What's the best decision you've ever made?
To have a baby and become a father!

What's the biggest mistake you've ever made?
Not to go abroad to play football from a younger age.

How long do you spend getting ready in the morning?
Five to 10 minutes.

Do you prefer a lie in or an afternoon nap?
Afternoon nap

Do you prefer a night in or a night out?
Night in

What's worse, a traffic jam or airport queuing?
Airport queuing

What's the best prank you've played on someone?
We told a friend that a girl that he went out with was pregnant a month later!!

What would your karaoke song be?
Simply the Best – Tina Turner

How many languages can you speak?
I’m not really good in languages, but I prefer Mathematics and Physics.
Two languages – Maltese and English

Which language would you most like to learn?
Spanish

Do you prefer sweet or savoury food?
Sweet

One meal, one drink. What would you choose?
Double Burger and a Sweet Cider.

What's your favourite film?
Gladiator and Man on Fire

What's your favourite singer/band?
Coldplay

Summer or winter?
Both for different reasons, but if I have to choose I would choose summer.

Who's the funniest team-mate you've ever had?
Joseph Zerafa!!!!!!!!!!

When was your Premier League debut with Valletta and the national team?
Valletta versus Hamrun Spartans on the 28th November, 2009
Malta versus Latvia on 7th October, 2011

What's your best match for Valletta and Malta?
Valletta against Birkirkara in season 2013/14 – it was a deciding match for the championship title. We won 2-0.
Malta versus Azerbaijan (Away), we lost 2-1.

Last question. Who's the best Maltese footballer you've played against?
Goalkeeper: Henry Bonello, currently is Valletta’s goalkeeper.
Player: Ryan Fenech, currently is playing with Balzan Youths.
