BIRKIRKARA STRIKE BACK TO DOWN PIETA

Birkirkara came from a goal down to claim their first win of the campaign after beating new arrivals Pieta Hotspurs 2-1, while Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans played out a 0-0 draw.

Pieta opened the scoring in the first-half when on 23 minutes Jan Busuttill beat the Stripes goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski.

But after the break on 69 minutes Birkirkara leveled the matters courtesy of veteran striker Michael Mifsud, while two minutes later webt into the lead when Cain Attard beat the Hotspurs custodian.

On 86 minutes the Stripes finished with ten man on the pitch when their match winner Cain Attard was shown his second yellow card and so received the marching orders.
