VALLETTA KNOCKED OUT

Valletta were knocked out from the Uefa Champions League by FK Kukesi after a 1-1 draw in the return match of the first qualifying round at the Centenary Stadium.

The Maltese champions were eliminated through the away goal rule when in the first leg at Albania they played out a goalless draw.

Both goals came after the break with the Citizens forging ahead on 67 minutes when Santiago Malano shot past the visitors goalkeeper Stivi Frahseri.

But on 84 minutes the Albanian side leveled the matters courtesy of Georgian midfielder Irakli Dzaria beat Valletta’s custodian Henry Bonello.

Valletta tried to at least regain the lead but the visitors held on till the final whistle to see them book a place in the second qualifying round of this competition.
