MELITA FALCONS: MALTA’S FIRST NATIONAL BEACH HANDBALL TEAM

Malta has established its national beach handball team to represent the country in high-level tournaments across Europe, starting in October.

Melita Falcons is made up of Malta’s current men’s national handball team.

Renowned Beach Handball Instructor Tamas Neukum was in Malta for a three-day practical workshop, where he was able to pass on his philosophies on the outdoor sport, as well as techniques and strategies to the team.

In his career, Tamas Neukum led the Italian women’s national team in both indoor and outdoor handball, where they won the European Championship in 2009 and Mediterranean Beach Games in Pescara, 2015.

“This is the most important beach handball course in Malta, and I can say the players improved a lot. We had a great time at the Golden Sands! Next season, we will be competing at the Mediterranean Beach Games as well as European Championships,” says Adam Sule, National Team Manager.

“My motto for success is to first know the techniques and the philosophy of beach handball. The second is to improve different strategies. The third is to play very fast, with creative solutions, anticipating on offence and defence. Lastly to play easily and to smile, always be positive!”

“We are now travelling to Slovakia for a European Beach Handball Tournament,” says National Team coach Ian Psaila.

The beach handball course was held between 15-17th June at Golden Bay. It was organised by the Malta Handball Association (MHA) in collaboration with European Handball Federation (EHF).
