HANDBALL GAINS POPULARITY AMONG JUNIORS

Handball in Malta is gaining popularity among juniors, receiving a record amount of registrations throughout season 2017/18.

The Malta Handball Association (MHA) announced there are now an increased number of participants in the junior categories, tallying up to a total of 7 girls’ teams and 10 boys’ teams for U17, U15 and U13 leagues.

“This is an excellent milestone in Maltese handball. We are glad to see our beautiful sport penetrate the local market and being enjoyed by so many of our youngsters. MHA works tirelessly to promote handball as a natural sport choice in schools locally, and we are exciting to see our efforts reaping fruit,” says MHA Marketing Director, Orlando Bonnici.

Currently, Kavallieri RS2 are leading the U17 scoreboards for both girls’ and boys’ categories, while U15 boys' league is being also led by Kavallieri RS2 and Swieqi Garmin Malta Phoenix are leading the girls' category.

The other participants in these leagues include La Salle Handball Club, Luxol Handball Club and Aloysians Handball Club.

Handball is an Olympic team sport developed in Northern Europe, in which two teams of seven players each, including a goalkeeper, pass the ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.

A game consists of two periods of 30 minutes each, and the team with the most goals, wins.
