HITT ACADEMY TABLE TENNIS MARATHON FOR CHARITY

Preparations are underway for HiTT Academy's annual fundraising event for charity.

The 30-hour table tennis marathon is to be held at St. Albert's College between 9.00 of Saturday 16 and 15.00 of Sunday 17.

For the fourth consecutive year, HiTT Academy Malta are organising a table tennis event where table tennis players, their families and the public are invited to play and make a small donation for charity.

“Past events have been characterised by great enthusiasm and fun where all visitors, students and helpers that attended the event ensured there was always a game going on at all times for the duration of the marathon,” said Mario Genovese, Director of HiTT Academy Malta.

“Anyone who visits can pick up a racket and play. In return, a small voluntary donation towards the Community Chest Fund can be made. All funds raised during the 30 hours will be presented to Istrina 2018.”

Thanks to volunteers and sponsors, HiTT Academy will have a fully stocked coffee shop with all kinds of savoury snacks, healthy food, homemade sweets and hot and cold drinks.

“Saturday night is usually the busiest time of the event, when veterans of the game meet up and animate the marathon through play. Sunday mornings are also very busy, usually officiated with a visit by the President of Malta and the Malta Community Chest Fund team.”

All the money collected during the event from the various activities, as well as money from food sales, a raffle and all donations are then presented to the President of the Republic on 26th December.

Since the first edition of the marathon, HiTT Academy have donated a total of €5,800 to charity.

This is a breakdown of sums collected each year:

2014 - €1,600
2015 - €2,200
2016 - €2,000

The public is invited to drop by at all hours. There'll be something going on at all times, with a guarantee of fun.

Activities include mini-games, a parent & player competition, coaching for new players, a Ping Pong session, and an opportunity to play against a robot.

In a run-up to the main event HiTT Academy has organised a couple of activities to kickstart the fundraising.

These included a Davis Cup style competition for Academy players and an event held in Dingli, where with the help of the Dingli Primary School and Savio College they collected a nice sum.

Another event will be held on 13th December and is a parent player competition in Davis Cup format.

All donations from table bookings will go 100% towards the charity fund. Bookings can be made either via email to info@hittmalta.com or by sending an SMS on 79288297.
