AGONES RIDER IN THE VUELTA ANDALUCIA

Agones Sfc rider Adam Darmanin successfully completed the Veulta Andalucia mountain bike race.

This is a demanding four-day stage XC marathon with long prolonged climbs in the Andalus mountains.

The first stage was held in Yunquera in the Malaga province, a short 47 km route with 2051m elevation gain with climbs of more than 11% and some steep technical single tracks along with climbs and descends using the stairs leading from the start of the village to the main square of Yunquera.

The second stage was held in Huetor Tajar in the Granada province, 60km in length and 2016m in altitude gain. A very hot stage with a constant broiling sun and temperatures in excess of 34 degrees.

The third stage in San Pedro Alcantara, a 62km race with 2200m of altitude gain. The main feature was a continuous 13km climb of an average 6% gradient up to the Sierra de las Nieves, leading to a fast descend down gravelly switchbacks and rocky mountain paths.

The final stage took place in Alcala De Los Gazules of the province of Cadiz, a 74.1km marathon and 2116m of altitude gain. This stage was characterised by the challenging 14km climb with gradients of over 10% to the Montero mountain.

The last quarter of the stage had one of the most technically challenging single tracks with a brave few doing it completely on their bikes.

The organizers finished the race with bang using a formidable short climb of 800m up the village square with a gradient of 22%.

Darminin expressed his satisfaction while underlining that for him this was a good preparation for a tougher staged marathon in Sudety between Poland and Czech.

A 6 stage of race in the end of this July, each stage an averaging 60kms and 2000m of climbs in muddy forests.
