HITT ACADEMY MALTA RAISE €2,000 FOR ISTRINA

HiTT Academy Malta managed to collect €2,000 for the Malta Community Chest Fund from three events, including a marathon of 30 hours non-stop table tennis.

The marathon, held at St. Albert's College in Valletta, opened at 9am on Saturday 17th December and went on till 3pm on Sunday 18th. Although the weather was not ideal for such an event, the turnout was still a good one.

The marathon kicked off with a ranking tournament for the club’s students. First to play were the Beginners and Mini-Cadet categories, followed by the 1 and 2 Star categories. The Elites closed off the tournament in style.

After the ranking tournament was over, various different fun games were held for young children. Saturday evening was highlighted by the presence of a few veteran players.

The marathon went on throughout the night with great enthusiasm. Sunday morning started with a Parent & Child event which went on till about 1pm. A fresh intake of visitors came around lunch time and remained till the closure of the marathon at 3pm.

“The amount we managed to collect makes us happy and proud. There was a constant feel-good vibe, even during the small hours of the night, and we had lots of fun playing our favourite game and also other fun activities,” said Mario Genovese, head coach of HiTT Academy Malta. “The marathon is an event that requires a lot of energy, hard work and help from many people. We would like to thank our sponsors for their contributions and all the volunteers that helped set up and dismantle the place, baked goodies to sell during the marathon and helped in whichever way they could. It took a lot of collective effort to set this up and we are overjoyed that it went so well.”

The other two events that contributed to the final amount were both held on Friday 25th November.

The first one was a table tennis demonstration to children from the Dingli primary school at Savio College.

The second event was a Davis-Cup-style tournament held at St. Albert’s College.

The sum raised during the three events was presented the Malta Community Chest Fund on 26th December.
