130 ATHLETES TAKE PART

One hundred thirty athletes were on the starting line ready to discover a new route during the third installment of the 10k Race Series, which was held recently in Burmarrad.

Held under the auspices of the Malta Amateur Athletics Association, the race attracted a good mix of athletes, from top level runners the likes of Charlton Debono, Mark Herrera, Gianella Bugeja and Josann Attard Pulis to athletes who regularly train and compete in such races.

The road in Burmarrad was a sea of black and yellow, when athletes sported the House of Sport running kits, purposely created for this event.

The scenic route, was designed to be flat and fast and saw current top athlete Charlton Debono storm to the finish line in 31 minutes 43 seconds.

Second to cross the finish line was Mark Herrera in a time of 34 minutes 17 seconds and third placed athlete was Matthew Scicluna in 35 minutes 53 seconds.

Favourite to win the females’ category Josann Attard Pulis was no match for fellow team mate Giannella Bugeja who from the start was out on a mission to obtain a good result.

Bugeja won the females’ category in 39 minutes 46 seconds, leaving Attard Pulis behind her to finish in a time of 42 mins 4 seconds.

Third placed was Amanda Rapa, a new face on the scene having taken up running about a year ago. Rapa finished in 45 minutes 38 seconds.

The organising team is grateful for the support given by the Malta Police, Transport Malta, St. Paul’s Bay Local Council as well as the Race Officials, Marshalls, Medical crews and volunteers.

The fourth installment of the 10k Series will be held on Thursday 8th December and will be held in the Three Cities.
