MALTA DELEGATION ATTEND RUGBY LEAGUE EDUCATION IN UK

In conjunction with the second edition of the European Week of Sport (EWoS), Malta Rugby League representatives attended coaching and match official seminars in the UK over the weekend.

Maltese Internationals Sam Blyton-Keep and Zachariah Micallef took part in a five day level 2 coaching course which was hosted by Super League club St Helens, whilst Maltese winger Jean Pierre Zarb completed the four day match official’s course in Leeds, hosted by Leeds Rhinos.

The three players from Malta’s domestic league joined delegates from 21 nations and took part in the initiative organised by the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF).

The knowledge and skills developed will be vital in the running of the 2017 Maltese Domestic Competition.

Sam Keep commented “It was a really worth while weekend. I've learned some valuable coaching skills that I will take back to Malta so that we can continue to develop the game on the island”

Jean Pierre Zarb who took part in the Match Official course was happy with the weekend work “We have a shortage of referees in Malta so I'm looking forward to being able to return home and help out with the domestic competition and taking control of games”

The RLEF training and education portal is supported by the EU’s Erasmus+ programme, which is providing €466,000 funding, with the RLIF providing a further €158,000.
