MALTA SUFFER ANOTHER HEAVY DEFEAT

Malta suffered another heavy defeat in the Under-19 European Water Polo Championships in Netherlands losing 19-6 to Montenegro on Monday morning.

Nicholas Bugelli scored the first goal of the match in Malta’s first possession with Ben Plumpton getting Malta’s second halfway through the session.

Once again the second session was Malta’s downfall when our opponents upped their tempo and managed to find the net 8 times with Malta replying through Miguel Zammit.

The third session was more balanced with Ben Plumpton, Joseph Galea and Jeremy Abela scoring for Malta. In the fourth session the match became more physical and Malta failed to add any goals to their tally.

Anthony Farrugia’s comments were: “Today’s performance was better than yesterday even though the team had to wake up at 05:30 and unfortunately Michele Mifsud was not available for the match due to a virus.

“We attacked more effectively and obtained more exclusions and penalties. Against such strong opposition each mistake is penalised by a goal against. Once again we suffered during the second session when some key players were rested. During this afternoon’s training session we will prepare for tomorrow game against Greece who is another very strong team challenging for the title.”

Malta meets Greece on Tuesday 13th at 10:15.
