BLACKHEATH DEFEAT MARSA IN THRILLER

Blackheath Rugby CC were the 19th cricket team to visit Malta this year with their Veterans beating Marsa’s counterparts in a 30 over encounter.

Marsa Vets batted first and reached the impressive tally of 168 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Paul Bradley was the shining light with 50 runs off only 36 balls.

Tim Wheeler (26), Sarfraz Ali (25), Joy Ghoseroy (18), Subhas Roy (14) and Stephen Lucas (17) made useful contributions. Andy Wolstenholme was the pick of the bowlers for Blackheath with 1 wicket for 17 runs.

In reply, Blackheath’s openers Kevin Acott (38) and Paul Matthews (30) put on a valuable 51 runs for the first wicket and laid the foundation for an exciting run chase. Rick Bodenham (27), Chris Kibble (23) kept the momentum going and with 11 runs required off Chris Belford’s final over, Andy Wolstenholme (20) and Peter Vaughan obliged by clinching victory for Blackheath off the final ball of the match.

On Monday 25th July, the Malta national squad travels to Hungary in a bid to retain the Pan European T20 Trophy which they won in 2014. They will compete against hosts Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and UCT (Dubai).
