XUEREB, MAGRO SET FOR SWISS EVENT

Malta top youth bowlers, Sara Xuereb and Matthew Magro will fly to Switzerland, to compete in the 2nd Youth Challenge – Zurich, and so further widen their international experience in their chosen sporting discipline.

The tournament is being organised by the Zurich Bowling Federation at the 14-lane Beseco Bowlinghalle centre, and is an ‘open’ competition specifically for youth bowlers (U-23).

There will be only one division, but all participants will be awarded extra handicap pins, depending on age and gender, to allow a level playing field.

The Youth Challenge will consist of four qualifying games to be played by all, after which the top 28 bowlers will qualify for the Semi Final stage for a further three games, their previous pinfall having been slashed to 50%.

Then the top 14 will again carry forward 50% of their pinfall to date to the finals, where another three games will decide the winner and final classification.

There will also be a Mixed Doubles event within the tournament, over a straight three games for total pinfall. Trophies and an attractive cash prize fund will be awarded in both events.

Xuereb and Magro will be accompanied by coach, Rick Vogelesang for their trip to Switzerland, as well as bowling mentor, Sue Abela.

Sara and Matthew are both students at the National Sports School, with tenpin bowling as their specialist subject.
