Krishna regained top spot of the Winter Cricket League after defeating Melita by 60 runs.

Both teams observed a minute's silence before the game, in honour of long-standing committee member John Collison who passed away.

Krishna batted first and reached the commanding total of 186 for 7 wickets. Captain Niraj Khanna was in a belligerent mood, dispatching the Melita bowling attack to all parts of the Marsa Oval on his way to 56 runs off only 30 balls.

Glenn Tavilla continued the onslaught with 40 runs off 27, while Malcolm Crabbe played a steady innings of 27 not out. For Melita, Karthick Keyan was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 20 from his 4 overs.

Melita lost wickets at regular intervals and it was only Bikram Arora (57 off 52 balls), who showed any resistance to Krishna’s consistent bowling and fielding. Malcolm Crabbe picked up 2 wickets for 20 in a memorable sign off before his return back to the UK.

Krishna CC 186 for 7 (Khanna 56*; Tavilla 40; Majeed 3-40; Keyan 2-25) beat Melita CC 126 for 9 (Arora 57*; Crabbe 2-20) by 60 runs.
Scorer: Eric Balakrishnan.
Winter League table: Krishna CC 34; Melita CC 31; Marsa CC 5.

This coming Saturday sees the Junior Academy at 9am, followed by the Winter League match between Melita and Marsa.
