OKMALTA.COM STRETCH UNBEATEN RUN

Leaders okmalta.com stretched their unbeaten run to three weeks in the Ten Pin Bowling National League, taking all eight from a beleaguered Blitzkrieg side to increase their advantage to six points.

Defending champions Fina also took all of the points from their clash with Malta International Airport, while third placed Ramis dropped precious point in their 6 – 2 win over Supreme. XS stay fourth after their 1 – 7 victory against Pin Strikers, while there was also a 6 – 2 result for XS against Royal Shock.

Okmalta.com clearly mean business this season having struggled somewhat with consistency in the previous campaign, and picked up an easy 8 – 0 win against Blitzkrieg in week three.

They opened the scoring with a convincing 826 – 685 game one win, and then made it 4 – 0 with a 781 – 651 win in the second. They wound up the whitewash with an 829 – 700 game three win, for a 2436 team series. Neil Sullivan (okmalta.com), 646. Paul Mallia (Blitzkrieg), 501.

It was Fina who shot the best team total of the week, a great 2451 effort as they tore into strugglers, Malta International Airport for a 0 – 8 win. The champions were quick to stamp their authority on the match as the opened with a 680 – 817 winner, and then doubled their advantage with a closer 742 – 781 game two win.

MIA’s best effort came in the final game, but their 770 was no match from their opponents’ 853 to complete the rout. Kenneth Arpa (Fina), 652. Aaron Belli (MIA), 536.

Second placed Ramis played a part in allowing okmalta.com to increase their top flight lead, as they dropped two points in their majority victory against Supreme (6 – 2). Game one was a formidable contest, falling narrowly to Ramis for the early lead (829 – 812), and then they also doubled up thanks to a 776 – 734 game two win.

Supreme clearly felt they were capable of taking something away from the confrontation, and in fact managed to snatch a two point share with a 761 – 783 game three win. Mark Spiteri (Ramis), 657, male bowler of the week. Benny Hili (Supreme), 605.

XS managed to consolidate their fourth spot with a 6 – 2 win against Royal Shock, who are currently lying in eighth place. It was the eventual losers who claimed the early advantage thanks to a tight 748 – 753 game one winner, but it was soon two-all as XS responded with a solid 857 – 766 equalizer in game two.

Their pace mellowed a little in the last of the series, but it was another easy win at 785 – 687 for the match. Matthew Magro (XS), an MTBA squad bowler and also a pupil at the National Sport School with bowling as his chosen discipline, shot his ‘personal best’ series of 654 (693 inc handicap) for XS. David Fenech (Royal Shock), 569.

Turu’s Knights finished up on the better end of a 1 – 7 score line in their clash with Pin Strikers. The latter picked up their single point in a tied opening game, 683 – 683, before the Knights then took control of the match with a 726 – 800 game two win.
