QORMI STRIKE BACK TO DOWN RABAT

Qormi came from a goal down to beat Rabat 4-1, while in the other National Hockey league match Laferla White Hart and Young Stars played out a 3-3 draw.

Rabat 1-4 Qormi

After Rabat had squandered a penalty corner opportunity in the 9th minute, on 14 minutes Kevin Micallef netted to give them a one goal lead.

Buoyed by that success they continued to apply pressure but Qormi’s young keeper Shameson Mifsud denied them going further ahead.

On 24 minutes Qormi were awarded a penalty corner and Juan Sarcia converted to level the score a 1 – 1. After fluffing two other penalty corner opportunities Steve Tanti, Qormi’s captain, shot them into a 2 – 1 lead on 30 minutes – a lead they held at half time.

After the change of ends, Qormi continued to dominate territorially but could not translate their pressure into goals as Rabat were well marshalled defensively and were capable of launching swift counter attacks down the flanks.

On 58 minutes Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke and Sarcia grabbed his second goal to send his team 3 – 1 up.

Although they continued to apply pressure it was not until the final minute of the game that Thomas De Giovanni put the game beyond doubt when he notched Qormi’s fourth goal and sealed victory for his side.

Laferla White Hart 3-3 Young Stars

Karl Tua shot Laferla White Hart ahead in the 4th minute with a crisp effort from the top of the D.

They continued to play one touch hockey and it was not until the 20th minute that Mark Camilleri the Young Stars captain picked up a rebound off the White Hart keeper’s pads to level the score at one apiece.

Young Stars continued to exert constant pressure, winning three penalty corners around the 30th minute and Camilleri shot them into a 2 – 1 lead two minutes later off a similar action to his first goal.

Just before the interval Jamie Mifsud scored for young Stars to send his team 3 – 1 up.

Early in the second half White Hart blew a couple of early chances and Chircop, who played a blinder, affected a double save off Luke Borg Costanzi on 50 minutes.

White Hart reduced the arrears on 59 minutes when Liam Azzopardi netted after a melee inside the D. Two minutes later Keith Laferla scored to level the score at 3 – 3.

Both teams then threw caution to the wind but Young Stars did not avail themselves of three penalty corners towards the end of the game and White Hart nearly snatched victory just before the final whistle blew leaving this exciting game deadlocked at 3 – 3.
