TOMS WINS SQUASH OPEN

Merik Toms was the winner of the Squash Open that was held recently at the Malta Union Club.

Toms managed to overcome the challenge of Rehan O’Grady in the final in straight games 11-9, 11-7, 11-7. The B event final was won by Petter Redemo while Roberto Cini took the honours in the C event.

The Juniors event was won by Kijan Sultana, with Daniel Borg finishing runner-up and Luigi Buhagiar taking third place.

The next Malta Squash tournament will be held on Saturday 23 January. Play will start at 9.30am with the Juniors Open, followed by the main event for the top senior players in the afternoon.

The A final is expected to start at around 4pm. This will be followed by B and C events for intermediate and beginner players.

On 29-30 January, Malta Squash, in collaboration with the European Squash Federation (ESF), will be organising an Introductory Squash Refereeing Course. The course will be given by Mr Marko Podgorsek who is a World Squash Federation Referee.

Interest in squash events and competitions has continued to grow over the past couple of months. The National Squash League has now grown to 12 divisions with nearly 80 players taking part.

The league is open to squash players of all levels, from relative beginners in the lower divisions, to intermediate and more advanced players in the higher divisions.

There are no fixed dates and times when league matches are played. Players arrange their matches against their opponents in their respective division at a mutually convenient date.

Anyone interested in taking part in any of these squash events can get in touch with the Malta Squash Association by sending an email to info@maltasquash.com
