CREMONA’S F.ILLI BARI REGGIO EMILIA CROWNED CHAMPIONS

Massimo Cremona won his third Champion League competition reserved for European clubs held in Frameries Belgium last weekend.

Cremona helped his team, F.illi Bari Reggio Emilia to another stunning success, their fourth title in their history.

In the final F.illi Bari Reggio Emilia beat Fiamme Azzure Roma 3-0 to clinch the European title.

The format of the competition was based on 32 European teams competing in 8 groups of 4. The first 2 teams in each group making a total of 16 teams qualify to pass on to compete in the Champions League, while the 3rd and 4th placing played the Europa League.

Malta was represented by three clubs, local Champion Valletta SC, Valletta Lions TFC and Attard SC. Eventually Valletta SC won the Europa League easily beating Tiburones of Spain 3-0 in the final.

In the Combined Group stages, F.lli Bari won all their 3 matches easily 4-0 again French side of Issy les Moulineaux, Belgium side of JSC Rochefort and Portuguese team of Belenenses to qualify for the final phase of Champions League.

IN the Champions’ League group stage, F.illi Bari were drawn with Proteas Athens of Greece, and two Belgium sides of AS Hennuyer and Stembert.

F.illi Bari won easily against Proteas and Hennuyer both 4-0 while 2-0 against Stembert (Maltese Jean Carl Tabone among their ranks) to pass for the quarter final.

A balanced game in the quater Quarter Final saw the better of F.illi Bari Reggio Emilia win over Napoli by 2-1 and in the semi final it was a confortable win of 4-0 against Belgium Charleroi to pass for the final.

In the Final Cremona’s side F.illi Bari Reggio Emilia beat easily Fiamme Azzure Roma (Maltese Hansel Mallia among their ranks) 3-0, to mark their Fourth European Title which makes them the most successful Club in this competition History.

Apart from Cremona F.illi Bari Reggio Emilia was made up of Saverio Bari (Capt), Marco Lamberti (Team Selector), Emanuele Licheri, Spanish Carlos Flores Current World Champion and new signing Current Italian Campion Luca Zambello and Vice World Champion Massimiliano Nastasi

“It’s always great to be on the winning side. Summer signings of Zambello and Nastasi and with no departure from our side which is current Champions of Italy increased very much the potential of our team. We were firm favourites to land the honour and we did it. As a strong team as we are my playing time decreased but it’s a great challenge to play for this club. We all win together! It’s my 8th consecutive season here and 10th season in total. I can say this is the strongest team ever we had! This is a dream team!” Cremona commented.

Next competition will be the Serie A first round on 21-22 November in San Benedetto del Tronto.
