QORMI AND RABAT BOTH WIN

Qormi and Rabat both won their MHA Challenge Cup matches beating Hotsticks and Laferla White Hart respectively.

Qormi 2-0 Hotsticks

Qormi went ahead in the 10th minute when Juan Sarcia slotted home as a result of a penalty corner action during the first penetrating move of note into the D.

Hotsticks reacted but did not put Qormi’s defense under any undue pressure and did not avail themselves of a penalty corner awarded on 30 minutes

Just before half time Jonathan Borg cut through the Hotsitcks defence on a solo run but pushed his shot wide. The score remaining unchanged.

Qormi enjoyed territorial advantage on the change of ends missing a couple of chances with Emile Borg Hotsticks custodian distinguishing himself with two fine saves in a couple of minutes around the 47th minute mark.

The tempo of the game then took a different turn and Hotsticks won two penalty corners in the 56th and 58th minute but were unable to capitalize.

Qormi strove to hold on to their lead by retaining possession even grabbing their second goal when Thomas De Giovanni crossed after a run down the left flank for Kyle Micallef to flick into the net giving Qormi a 2–0 victory.

Laferla White Hart 0-3 Rabat

The first ten minutes of the match provided lively fare however it was not until the 15th minute that White Hart won the first penalty corner of the game but were denied by Rabat’s custodian Ian Azzopardi.

After not availing themselves of another penalty corner award on 21 minutes they went behind in the 28th minute when Charlot Antonelli flicked home a pass which he received from outside the D. Although White Hart pressed hard Rabat held on to their 1 – 0 lead at the half way mark

Rabat increased their lead in the 42nd minute when Kevin Micallef picked up a rebound off the White Hart Custodian’s pads and passed to Shawn Falzon who netted.

White Hart continued to play attractive hockey but were found wanting in the final third of the pitch and were denied by Azzopardi in Rabat’s goal on three other occasions.

Rabat then went further ahead on 65 minutes when Kevin Micallef dribbled down the right flank and crossed for Antonelli to grab his second goal to seal victory for his team.
