INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR MALTESE JUNIOR PLAYERS

Msida Arrows Badminton Club duo Lauren Sciberras and Michela Lia will this week be travelling to Luxembourg in order to take part in the eleventh edition of the Luxembourg Youngsters International Tournament which will be played over the coming weekend.

Sciberras will be competing in the U/15 Girls’ Singles whilst Lia will be playing in the U/19 category; the two players will then partner each other in the U/19 Doubles category.

Both Singles events will be played in Groups where each participant will play all the other Group members on a round robin basis; the top two players from each Group would then qualify for the second round of the competition where play would switch to a knock-out basis.

The Doubles event will be played on a knock-out basis from the very outset.

Both girls have been preparing themselves intensively for this Luxembourg tournament, having already started their training during the hot summer months.

This has enabled them to considerably improve their standard of play. It will also bestow them with added confidence for their forthcoming multiple fixtures in Luxembourg.

A spokesman for the MABC expressed the Club’s satisfaction at this participation of its players on the international stage.

He also underlined the Club’s continued commitment to provide its members with similar opportunities in future so as to enhance their competitive experience whist improving their standard of play.
