SQUASH OPEN HELD ON WORLD SQUASH DAY

The first squash tournament that was organised by Malta Squash this season was held on World Squash Day, 10th October.

Besides, it was indeed a full day of squash which kicked off with an event for junior players in the morning, followed by other events for all ages in the afternoon and in the evening.

All juniors played 5 matches each, enjoying a great morning of squash together. The youngest players in the tournament were 8-year old’s Eitan O’Grady and Lijana Sultana.

There were 16 participants in the next event for beginners/intermediate players. These were split up into B and C categories following the first round of matches.

The C category was won by Joonas Kurku who contested the final against Marvin Cachia. In the final of the B category, it was young Kijan Sultana who had to work hard to beat Anthony Attard.

The final event for more experienced squash players was again well contested. The final was between Sebastien Giordano from France and British player Rehan O’Grady.

Giordano started strongly taking the first game 11-8 but O’Grady responded well, winning the next 3 games 11-9, 11-5, 11-1, to win the Open event.

The match for third and fourth place was won by Robert Sultana against Dean Gera. Jean Balzan also deserves a notable mention for his great performance in the tournament.

The next Malta Squash tournament will be held on 21st November and will once again include both junior and senior events.

This tournament will be organised as part of Solidarjetà bl-Isport Campaign and all proceeds will go to the Community Chest Fund.
