FINA GO JOINT TOP

Week four of the National Bowling League saw champions Fina take top spot after an 8-0 win against Royal Shock, however they are joint leaders on 28 points with Ramis, after they saw off an unsettled okmalta.com outfit with a 6-2 victory.

Supreme were also 6 – 2 winners against The Clan, as were XS Vitel against Turu’s Knights. Blitzkrieg also clinched a 6-pointer against Strike Me , in the final match of the week.

Fina and Ramis are now joint leaders of Division I on 28 points, with a good ten point advantage over their nearest chasers, okmalta.com.

Fina shot the team series of the night (2404) during their demolition job on Royal Shock, and were never really under any threat as the series progressed: 657 – 794, 741 – 847, 684 – 763.

Royal Shock held they spot in fourth place in spite of the heavy defeat. Justin Caruana Scicluna (Fina), 731, male bowler of the week. Joe Cassar (Royal Shock), 541.

Third placed okmalta.com are still struggling to find their form in the latest championship campaign, and were 6 – 2 losers against Ramis in week 4.

Ramis opened strongly with a one-sided 802 – 655 game one win, and then quickly went four ahead with a closer 800 – 757 win in game two.

Okmalta.com improved again in the last of the set, enough to claim their two-point share with a narrow 791 – 803 victory. Paul Baldacchino (Ramis), 629. Dennis Mercieca (okmalta.com), 604.

Supreme are up in fifth place thanks to their 6 – 2 win over The Clan this week, although there wasn’t a lot to separate the two sides at all. Supreme took the early lead with a 671 – 637 game one win, before The Clan then came back to level it, with a tight 704 – 710 equalizer in game two.

The deciding third game could also have gone either way, falling to Supreme by just 17 pins (722 – 705) to assure them of the lion’s share of the spoils. Ernest Agius (Supreme), 527. James Vassallo (The Clan), 519.

It was 6 – 2 again in the clash between winning side XS Vitel and Turu’s Knights. It was the latter who were first on the scoreboard, taking the first of the series 710 – 724, but then XS Vitel bounced back with a 766 – 683 win in game two to make it all square at 2 – 2.

They then bagged the last of the set with a 745 – 725 score line for the match win. Sara Xuereb (XS Vitel), 578. Melissa Swift (Turu’s Knights), 590, female bowler of the week.

Strike Me ’s 2 – 6 defeat at the hands of Blitzkrieg saw them sink to the foot of the standings, with just eight points from a possible 32.

They replaced their week four opponents in last place in actual fact, as Blitzkrieg got off to a good start with a 732 – 759 opening victory, before pulling out all of the stops with a solid 714 – 823 game two win to make it 0 – 4.

Strike Me than managed a come-back in game three, which they won 747 – 706 to save their blushes. Gunther Micallef Decesare (Blitzkrieg), 579. Cynthia Duca (Strike Me ), 571.
