VICTORY DAY NATIONAL REGATTA

The Maltese rowing federation, Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali and the Malta Sports Council (KMS) have jointly published an updated text for the regulations which will oversee the forthcoming 8th September National Regatta.

Important changes include a much clearer stand on issues such as collisions or doping, and a clause to protect rowers in case of injuries.

These regulations have been published after KMS has given to the federation the full technical responsibility for the rowing races in the Maltese National Regatta.

Joseph N Grima, President of the federation considers this as an important step forward which was long overdue.

“The fact that the National rowing federation has been delegated the technical responsibility of one of the most important and prestigious events in the Maltese Sports Calendar signifies that Governments has confidence in our Association and its members. The Association, despite its limited resources, is fully committed to ensure that that regatta is a success and conducted fairly in a true sense of sportsmanship.”

Għaqda Regatta Nazzjonali has also updated the text of its race regulations to bring these regulations up to date and clarify any perceived anomalies.

“Our rowers are extremely committed to their sport and for them, all of their other activities are dictated by the training schedules for the Regatta. We owe it to them to organise a Regatta to the best of our ability. They also owe it to themselves and each other to abide with the regulations to ensure that they can reap the rewards they worked so hard for.”

The Maltese National Regattas are organised biannually on the 8th of September and 31st of March and are part of the celebrations of these National Days.

This year, the first race for the 8th September Regatta is scheduled to commence at 2pm and will take place at the Grand Harbour.
