MIFSUD TAKES OVER DEPIRO SENIOR TEAM

Depiro Basketball Club senior men’s team have a new head coach at the helm for the start of the 2015/2016 season, after they sealed the services of Brian Mifsud.

Mifsud is no stranger to the basketball community, as he played with Hamrun Liberty, Sliema Juventus 76 and Hibernians, and then started his coaching career with Hamrun Liberty, moving on to Loyola where he assisted with the senior men.

He also had stints with Naxxar Danone’s first division women’s team, also coaching Depiro’s own senior women’s team where he guided them to the Super cup and Knock-out success.

Most recently Mifsud was the coach of the Starlites female youth teams, guiding the under 19’s to a respectable final four placing, and a very young under 16 team to a whisker away from the championship.

On his arrival Mifsud said that he is looking forward to the challenge of guiding the team to the playoffs, which is the target, and continuing the fine work carried out by his predecessor, Gabriele Alesse.

The senior men’s team, composed of a number players under the age of 22 endured a tough, yet satisfying first year in the first division, and will look to build on that experience to challenge the elite teams.
