OPEN SWIMMING RACE A SUCCESS FOR MUSCAT

Agones Sfc athlete Warren Muscat recently took part in the yearly endurance swim meet in Gibraltar organised by the Bluefin open water swimming club.

The swim from Eastern Beach to Catalan Bay was characterised by the strong currents with many swimmers struggling to reach safety as they faced what eyewitnesses have described as “difficult and dangerous” weather conditions.

Muscat was one of the athletes who managed to successfully finish the event within the time limit stipulated by the organisers.

After the race Muscat explained how the conditions were not very bad at the start but they deteriorated quickly during the course of the race making the distance to the finish line seem endless.

Although the organisers may have been the target of criticism from participants’ families due to the event which went ahead despite rough Levanter seas, Muscat would like to congratulate and thank the organisers, lifeguards, the RGP and canoes who were in the area and managed to help most of those who encountered difficulties.

Muscat concluded by admitting that he was not expecting such a tough challenge from this event and looks forward for such similar events organised by the Bluefin OW but hopefully with calmer seas.
