TOP COACHING CLINIC THIS WEEKEND

As part of a number of initiatives that the Malta Basketball Association (MBA) is working on with the main aim of developing further the game of basketball will be organising a top-level Coaching Clinic on the 9th and 10th of May at Ta’ Qali Basketball Pavilion.

The Coaching Clinic, which is supported by FIBA Europe, will be delivered by one of the most experienced coaches in the FIBA Europe Coaching staff, Mr. Janez Drvaric.

Mr Drvaric, who is Slovenian, needs no introduction in the basketball scene, having coached successful teams including Cibona Zagreb, led by the legendary Drazen Petrovic in the late 80s.

Janez Drvaric won European Championships gold, as part of the coaching staff, with the Yugoslavia senior and cadets team as well as Olympic silver and bronze medals.

In the last years he was the national coach and technical director of Slovenia as well as head coach at Olimpija Ljubljana.

The main topics covered during the clinic will be:

• Cuts and positioning;
• Basic 3 on 3 offensive plays;
• Motion offense;
• Developing a defensive concept.

Mr. Michael Schwarz, Head of the FIBA Europe Coaching Department, who was also head coach of Bayern Munich will also be in Malta and will be informing the local coaches on the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) and in making the most effective use of the highly interactive FIBA Europe Coaching website.

The clinic, which is compulsory for all coaches of youth category teams (Under 14/23), is open to all those persons who may be interested in furthering their knowledge in basketball.
