CASSAR AND AXISA MAKE IT DOUBLE

Badminton Malta showcased a new set-up for this year’s Junior National Championships, continuing with its plan to change and modernise.

This year the Junior National Championships are split in two tournaments. In fact the one held recently exhibited the U11, U13 & U15 age categories. The U17 and U19 age categories will be held towards the end of the year, in November.

26 youngsters from all of the local clubs took part in the most prominent event for junior players. Games were spread over 8 days and were played at Cottonera Sports Complex and Kirkop Sports Complex.

The tournament promised to be an interesting display of local upcoming talent, with new faces taking up the challenge against some other established youths.

In the U11 age category, Francesca Clark and Neil Axisa were declared National Champions in the Singles event.

In the U13 age category, Lauren Azzopardi and Isaac Axisa laid hands on the Singles National Title, whilst in the Boys’ Doubles event Isaac Axisa partnered his brother Neil, to take home a second National Title.

The U15 age category, Sarah Fava and Sam Cassar were crowned champions in the Singles event. Sam Cassar made it double by winning the Mixed Doubles event with his new partner, in the category, Michaela Ellul.

Badminton Malta expressed it satisfaction at the success of this edition of the Junior National Championships, which brought new faces in the family of badminton.
