SULTANA VOTED AS ONE OF THE BEST SQUASH PLAYERS

Colette Sultana, Malta’s top female squash player, was voted as one of the best squash players in the US College Ivy League.

The 19-year old currently studies at Columbia University, and was the first woman at this college to ever receive an All-Ivy Team selection.

Colette is delighted with this selection: "I am honoured to have been voted by US college coaches to form part of the All-Ivy team. It has been a great season and I look forward to our team making more milestones in the years to come".

Although Colette is currently not a full-time professional athlete, she holds a world ranking of 125 on the professional world squash tour.

She will be playing in the top position for the Malta national squash team in Slovenia this week, competing in the European Team Championships.

On this side of the Atlantic, Colette’s younger brother Kijan had a great first European junior ranking tournament. Kijan, who is just 11 years old, was in Oslo over the weekend taking part in the Norwegian Junior Open.

He beat Vetle Davidsen (Norway) in the first round of the Under 13 Boys competition.

The Maltese junior then went on to face Nicolai Bo, the tournament top seed and the highest ranked player in Scandinavia in this age group. Kijan tried his best but Bo, who is a year older, was too strong for him.

Sultana managed to finish in 5th place after beating Swedish players Karl Bundy and Otto Manberg. This was a great debut for young Kijan, who also earned some valuable first ranking points in Europe.

Kijan is coached by professional squash player Bradley Hindle Deguara.
