HOTSTICKS MOVE LEVEL WITH RABAT

Hotsticks moved level on pints with Rabat at the top of the HAM National League after claiming the top-of-the-table clash, while in the other fixture Young Stars beat White Hart Laferla Insurance.

Hotsticks 3-1 Rabat

After a studious early period Rabat failed to clear their lines outside the D and in the 12th minute Silas Plaehn picked up the pieces and shot Hotsticks into a 1 – 0 lead.

Midfield exchanges dominated the rest of the half with very few openings created. Both teams did not take advantage of penalty corners awarded to them four minutes before half time but just before the whistle blew Rabat were awarded a penalty stroke and Charlot Antonelli obliged from the spot to equalize.

Hotsticks applied more pressure after the change of ends and went ahead in the 47th minute when Julian Zahra netted as a result of a penalty corner action.

The importance of key matches at the end of the season created a tense atmosphere with no quarter asked or given but in the 63rd minute Hotsticks grabbed their third goal when Shawn Grima netted - a lead they held until the final whistle.

White Hart Laferla Insurance 1-3 Young Stars

After missing a couple of early chances White Hart were awarded a penalty stroke in the 19th minute but Keith Laferla failed to convert from the spot.

Having missed the golden opportunity they fell behind when Mark Camilleri shot Young Stars ahead in the 26th minute as a result of a penalty corner action. Just before half time Hannah Chisholm hit a cross shot from the top of the D which shaved the far post denying White Hart yet again and leaving Young Stars holding on to their slender lead.

Young Stars went ahead in the 46th minute when Christopher Attard grabbed their second goal as a result of a penalty corner action.

In the 54th minute White Hart were awarded another penalty stroke and Laferla again saw his shot pushed away by the Young Stars custodian.

This miss proved costly as Young Stars went 3 – 0 up when Luke Borg Costanzi deflected a Camilleri hit into the net. White Hart still pressed forward and David Agius pulled one back with literally the last move of the game.
