2015 MATCH RACING GETS UNDERWAY

Three teams took part in the first day of the Royal Malta Yacht Club Match Racing Series on Saturday morning.

Racing took place on two H-Boats and was as usual held in Marsamxett harbour right in front of the Royal Malta Yacht Club terrace making it an excellent opportunity for sailing enthusiasts to enjoy a good spot of hard fought racing.

A strong westerly wind with gusts of up to 35 knots made for exciting conditions.

Ray Condachi and his team, made up of Adrian Gauci Borda, Mark Camilleri and Fabio Galea started off the day with a convincing win against Marco Sartori’s team.

Condachi’s team went on to win all the day’s races taking an early lead in the series with Kurt Camilleri Burlo’s team coming in second place.

Once again this event will be one of the selection events organised to choose a team to represent the Royal Malta Yacht Club at the International Etchells Invitational Regatta, which will be held in Cowes, between the 1st and 5th August.

This event sees Yacht Clubs from around the world competing for the prestigious Royal Thames Gertrude Cup.

Seven teams have signed up for the series this year, it continues next week on Saturday 7th February.
