EUROPEAN APPOINTMENTS FOR MALTA BASKETBALL REFEREES

The FIBA Europe club competitions will commence this week and the two local international basketball referees received nominations for the coming days.

In fact, local basketball referee Bernard Vassallo will be going to Italy in the coming days so that next Thursday 6th November he will referee the game valid from the first day of competition from Group B of the FIBA Europe Euro League which will be played at the Pala Campagnola between the Italian national champions Schio and Spanish League champions Salamanca.

The officiating crew for this game, apart from Vassallo who is the crew chief, will consist of Nuno Monteiro (Portugal) and Peter Zenis (Slovak Republic).

Vassallo will be again in action on the European sphere next week when he will travel to Turkey where he will officiate in Istanbul, on Wednesday 12th November, the game valid from Group A of the FIBA Europe Euro League between the Turkish and current Euro League champions Galatasaray against the Slovak national champions Kosice who were in the Final Four of the Euro League last year.

Vassallo’s officiating crew, where he is once again crew chief, will consist of Luka Kardum (Croatia) and Tamas Foldhazi (Hungary).

At the same time, the other local international referee, Gordon Barbara will travel to Portugal this week where he will referee, on Wednesday 5th November, the game in Lisbon from Group E of the FIBA Euro Cup between Lombos Cascais and the Hungarians Miskolc. The game officials accompanying Barbara will be Maziej Nazimek (Ireland) and Gian Luigi Giancecchi (San Marino).
