JUNIORS TO RACE IN CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL REGATTA

Following an impressive weekend at the MCF Canoe Sport Festival, the Malta Canoe Federation will be shifting its sights onto the last of the sprint races that will be taking place in 2014.

A fresh crop of athletes who worked their way up through the Malta Canoe Federation’s development programme have their sights set on representing Malta for the first time in the Cyprus International Regatta.

Following an intense year of preparation under the guidance of athlete/coach Matthew Schembri, the contingent will head to Cyprus on Friday to compete in the following disciplines on Sunday 26th October:

Matthew Schembri : Seniors – 500m and 200m sprint
Samuel Borg: Juniors – 1000m, 500m and 200m sprint
Michaela Agius: Juniors – 1000m, 500m and 200m sprint
Martina Agius: Juniors – 1000m, 500m and 200m sprint

This regatta will mark the end of the sprint season for 2014, following which, a winter beach racing series will take place from November ’14 till March ’15 with an intense 12 race series.

The Malta Canoe Federation will be watching closely the progress of the juniors’ contingent and wishes the athletes all the best for the upcoming competition.
