MALTA TO BE REPRESENTED AT THE ‘BATTLE OF BRITAIN’

Four boxers will be representing the Malta Boxing Association at the Independent Boxing Association 2014 Championships that will take place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London England.

York Hall is one of Britain’s most well know boxing venue with a capacity of 1,300 which underwent a major multi-million pound refurbishment in a joint project between the local Council and Greenwich Leisure in 2005.

The sight is split into two sections – a leisure centre and a hall in which events take place.

The York Hall Leisure Centre's re-furbishment included a state-of-the-art gymnasium that doubled the size of the previous gym area, a refurbished reception area and pool and new changing rooms.

This is the first time a boxing team has been invited to travel and challenge for titles.

The team is made up of Demis Tonna – Team Manager & Mission Chaperone, Steve Martin National Coach and Noel Lebrun, Duncan Calleja and Richard Vella will to try to snatch the IBA titles from our British counter parts while Nico Sciberras will box his first International non-title bout away fight against the brother of British Professional fighter Collin Lines.

The Independent Boxing Association is headed up by Allen Mortlock and represented on the Malta Boxing Association Executive Committee by Demis Tonna of Prize Boxing Promotions who promotes his 8th boxing show on November 8th.

The Independent Boxing Association is a semi professional boxing league with over 2000 members.

The organisation sanctions National, International, and own ranking championship titles.

The British based semi pro sanctioning body is one of the leading international bodies with regards to professionalism in boxer’s safety and well-being with strong communication skills, sharing the same values to athletes as the Malta Boxing Association.

The training camp proved to be a great success and an excellent learning experience for our local fighters as they continue to improve and enhance the technical level of the sports on the island, under the experienced guidance of Steve Martin (WBF World, International & Intercontinental Welterweight Champion), Christian Schembri (Sparring Partner), accompanied by Malta Boxing Association Senior Vice President Demis Tonna while the entire event was made possible by the help of Allen Mortlock as well as the Independent Boxing Association.
