FIRST EDITION OF THE MCF CANOE SPORT FESTIVAL

The Malta Canoe Federation will be launching its first edition of the MCF Canoe Sport Festival in a bid to promote canoe sport as a way for fitness on the Maltese Islands.

The event will be taking place on the Sliema Strand part of Marsamxett harbour on 19th October from 9am onwards.

With a record entry of 140 participants the Malta Canoe Federation will be showcasing Kayak racing, surfskis, sea kayaking, Stand up Paddling and canoe polo. On the day, the MCF will also launching its newest discipline which is that of Dragon Boating.

The programme of events will be kicked off with a team event race round Manoel Island. Each team will include a SUP, Sea Kayak, Canoe polo kayak and also a racing class kayak.

Joining these paddlers, kayak enthusiasts will follow in a second wave, for a 1 lap fun race round Manoel Island.

The main event during this festival will be a Dragon boat tournament, where an impressive 22 paddler team per boat will be battling it out over a 200m distance.

During the festival there will be sea kayaking demonstrations as well as a display canoe polo match.

These will be followed by a juniors sprint race, who in the following week will be representing Malta in an international regatta in Cyprus.

The public is invited to come and cheer on during the event. Information about the various disciplines will also be handed out during the festival.
