VELLA IMPRESSES AT THE ETNA MARATHON 2014

A group of elite cyclists took part in the 8th edition of the Etna marathon in which Jason Vella left a good impression.

The Etna Marathon is an official race in the Italian calendar which is 74km long with 2560 meters of climbing along the famous Etna valleys characterized by ash and lava single tracks.

All Maltese riders taking part managed to finish the race successfully. Jason Vella was first amongst the Maltese to cross the finishing line, finishing 31st overall out of 283 riders.

Vella who started the race very well, kept the pace of the front riders until midway point. Eventually he was forced to drop his pace and loose positions due to dehydration problems.

Vella also achieved the best time ever recorded by a Maltese rider in this event.

The placing of the other Maltese riders were
78th Maurice Formosa
93rd Mark Bonnici
110th Jeffrey Borg
126th Patrick Scicluna
128th Paul Zarb

The race was won by Franz Hofner.
