MALTA VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION TO HOST CONTINENTAL CUP FIRST PHASE

The Malta Volleyball Association will be hosting the Men’s and Women’s Second Round (Pool C) of the 1st Phase of the 2014-2016 CEV (European Volleyball Federation) Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

The eventual winners of the Continental Cup Final phase will get the right to participate in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games Beach volleyball tournament .

The Women’s pool, made up of 5 teams, will see the participation of the Maltese teams, together with those of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Latvia, Romania and Turkey.

Malta is represented by Alison Borg and GertudeZarb as team A and Maria Demicoli and Daniella Bonnici as Team B .

The Men’s pool is also made up of 5 teams: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Moldova, Romania and San Marino. All countries will be represented by two teams of the same gender .

The 2014-2016 CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup will feature the participation of 44 National Teams,a significant increase from its start four years ago.

Commenting on Malta’s hosting of this event, Malta Volleyball Association President Branko Vlahovic stated that “we are proud that Malta has been selected to host one of the pools of the second round of the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup. This event is expected to continue enhancing Malta’s profile on the international beach volleyball scene, as well as increase awareness of the game in Malta itself”.

Pool C will be played at Golden Bay on the 20th and 21st September. Games are expected to start at 08:30 with the last matches coming to an end at approximately 18:00.
