ENCOURAGING START FOR MALTA TEAMS

Malta basketball teams have had an encouraging start in the FIBA Europe Under 18 Div. C Championships (Women and Men) currently being played in Andorra.

The Under 18 Girls, under the guidance of coach Sandro Farrugia, have won their first two games, 54-42 against Gibraltar and today, with a score of 52-39 against Andorra.

As winners of Group A, the girls have advanced to semifinal, which will be played on Saturday 26 July at 12:00.

Maddison Rose Borg is leading the Maltese girls with 15 points per game, whilst Julia Xerri is leading both the team and the tournament in rebounds and assists, with 12 and 4 per game respectively.

Nicole Agius, one of the youngest players of the tournament is turning heads with her 10.5 points per game.

The U18 Boys under the coach of Gabriele Alesse, had to face the powerhouse of Monaco in the first game of the tournament.

Despite a brave showing from our boys, the experience of the other team was instrumental, and the Maltese lost 57-49.

The Maltese boys face San Marino tomorrow, which will be a crucial game in their hopes of advancing to the semifinals.
