DANISH TRAINING FOR TOP MALTESE JUNIOR PLAYERS

Msida Arrows Badminton Club duo and national junior title-holders Kyle Sciberras and Nigel Degaetano are currently in Vejen, Denmark attending the “Summer School” organised once again by Badminton Europe.

Despite its somewhat misleading designation, this “Summer School” is actually an annual intensive week-long Training Camp for talented junior players and their coaches; considered as Badminton Europe’s development flagship, the “School” has now reached its 33rd consecutive edition.

Conducted by seven high-performance coaches handpicked by Badminton Europe for this specific purpose, this Danish training camp this year will host 54 junior players and 24 junior coaches coming from 18 different nations.

At the end of the “Summer School”, the two Maltese players will then proceed to Odense in order to take an active part in the Badminton Academy run by the Odense Badminton Club.

This will be Sciberras’s second participation at this Academy, after having been personally invited to attend its 2013 edition by Jakob Toft, one of the Club’s leading coaches.

It is relevant to highlight the fact that a number of famed Danish national team players, such as Victor Axelsen (Men’s Singles) and Mathias Boe (Men’s Doubles), have trained actively at the Badminton Academy run by the Odense Badminton Club.

This double training experience will undoubtedly enable both Maltese junior players to assimilate the latest technical and tactical developments of the game, thereby further enhancing their already high standard of play.

Asked about the matter, Sciberras stated enthusiastically: “I am really looking forward to these five weeks of intense training as I am sure that they will be of great benefit for my present and future Badminton career.

I would like to thank the Maltese Olympic Committee for supporting me and my sponsors “Hell Energy Drink” and “Blue Elephant Restaurant” as well as “Royal Thai Massage & Beauty".

Msida Arrows Badminton Club wishes both its players well. It also affirms its continued commitment to provide its developing junior players with similar opportunities in the future.
