BALZAN, VALLETTA START 2018 WITH A WIN

Premier League leaders Balzan Youths and nearest rivals Valletta started the 2018 with a win beating St. Andrews and Senglea Athletic on Saturday.

Balzan had to wait until a minute into time added on to break the deadlock when they were given a penalty from which Bojan Kaljevic made no mistake.

Four minutes after the break the premier league leaders doubled their lead through Malta international Alfred Effiong.

On 76 minutes the Youths increased their lead one again when Bojan Kaljevic grabbed his second and his side’s third.

Two minutes into time added on the Saints pulled one back when Misael Miranda Gomez beat Balzan’s goalkeeper.

Meanwhile Valletta beat Senglea Athletic 1-0, with the match winner coming after the break when on 58 minutes the Citizens were given a penalty from which Denni Rocha dos Santos made no mistake to maintain his side’s pace with the leaders.

In another two premiership matches, Mosta brushed aside bottom of the table Lija Athleuic 5-1, while Sliema Wanderers and Naxxar Lions played out a 1-1 draw.
