BALZAN LEAVE IT LATE

A 90th minute goal from substitute Alex Da Paixao Lecao handed Balzan Youths an important 1-0 win over Hibernians on Saturday.

Thanks to this win Balzan moved three points above Valletta at the top of the Premier League but with the Citizens having a match in hand as they take on Gzira United on Sunday.

Meanwhile a late goal from Luke Montebello was enough for Birkirkara to beat Hamrun Spartans 1-0.

The Stripes match winner came six minutes before end of the match when Luke Montebello beat the Spartans custodian.

Elsewhere Senglea Athletic beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 with the Cottonera side going into the lead after 11 minutes into the match when Peter Paul Sammut beat the Lions goalkeeper Omar Borg.

On 30 minutes Senglea doubled their lead courtesy of Nicola Palmieri, while after the break on 65 minutes the Lions pulled one back through Messias Yuri De Jesus.

Two minutes into time added on Senglea finished the game with ten man when substitute Rene Caseres Augusto collected his second yellow card and so was sent off.

Meanwhile Floriana had an easy Saturday afternoon but they had to wait until after the break to brush aside bottom of the table Lija Athletic 6-0.

The Greens goals came through an own goal by Sidibe Ousmane (58), Steve Pisani (63), Cabriel Juninho (66), Ignacio Varela (78) and a double from Mario Fontanella (84 and 86).
