MARSA WHITE STARS WINTER CHAMPIONS

In the MAPFRE/MSV Life Premier Division, Marsa White Stars finished their first round commitments as winter champions after beating Rabat 12-7.

Although they had Alexander Ribic, Mario Caruana and Rupert Mangion injured they were better than their opponents. They took a good lead of 5-1 going for the break and managed to sustain a good lead till the end.

Gilbert Scerri again being the ‘man of the match’ a star player scoring no less thn seven goals. Rabat could not get going in the first half, and though they exerted a lot of pressure in the second half they could not reach the level of their opponents.

In the CISK Masters Division One, Jival registered their third consecutive win to go second together with Melita in the standing and keep chasing leaders Vallletta with whom they will meet next month. Jival beat TARGA GAP 11-7.

They were far superior in the first half leading 7-1, but they had to be on the alert in the second half when Targa Gap played much better. For Jival, Ahmed El Baden was their star player scoring six goals to go second in the top scorers list.

A classical start for the Zmerc Christmas T’ment, in one of the best games so far. Wardija beat MELITA 5-3 with the excitment remaining up to the end. Wardija is a strong team, combining well and with a lot of possession.

Regarding Melita, we had another confirmation the great strides forward the team made. IT IS a very dfficult team to beat and should qualify for a place with the elite next season.

The first half was balanced producing only two goals, one after ten minutes by Wardija, with Melita getting the equilizer in the last two minutes.

In the second half hour, Melita went infront 2-1, but then Wardija scored three consecutive goals that made it difficut for Melita.

Although they reduced the margin, Wardija scored again in the last ten minutes to kill all hope for their opponents. The ‘man of the match’, was undoubtedly Melita’s goalkeeper, Paolo Bugeja who denied Wardija on several occasons with some wonderful saves.

TAL-QROQQ also reached quarter final stage when the beat ZABBAR 4-3 in another exciting game with the result uncertain till the end. David Grima (Jashin) the Tal-Qroqq goalkeeper had a positive performance making some very good saves.

Zabbar lost too many chances in the first half when we had only one goal by Tal-Qroqq, scored after twenty minutes.
