VALLETTA TAKE TOP SPOT

Valletta opened a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League thanks to a 3-0 win over St. Andrews, while defending champions Hibernians returned to winning ways after beating Lija Athletic also 3-0 on Saturday.

The new leaders opened the scoring after six minutes into the match trough Denni Rocha Dos Santos, while on 21 minutes doubled the score courtesy of Jean Borg.

Meanwhile on 34 minutes the Citizens increased their lead when Matteo Picciolo grabbed his side’s third.

Lija Athletic 0-3 Hibernians

The reigning champions had to wait until five minutes before half-time to break the deadlock, when Jurgen Degabriele crossed to Marco Sahanek, who shot past goalkeeper Jonathan Martinelli.

After the break on 83 minutes the Paolites doubled their advantage when Jurgen Degabriele received a perfect pass from substitute Jackson Lime Sequeira and befoere slotting home dribbled past goalkeeepr Martinelli.

Five minutes later Hibernians sealed the three points when substitute Johann Bezzina beat the Athletic’s goalkeeper to grab his side’s third.
