DINGLI DESANA WINS TOOLS PLANET TOURNAMENT

Dingli Desana won the first honour of the season, the Tools Planet pre-season tournament after beating Marsa White Stars 5-4 in the final.

This was an interesting final with the result uncertain up to the final whistle. A small crowd at the Melita Ground, had the privilege to witness high level football.

One would have expected this with some well known players on both sides that in the past used to give so much pleasure to football enthusiasts when they used to play with MFA Premier League clubs.

Players such as Branco Nisevic, Carlo Mamo, Malcolm Licari, Charlo Magro and Simon Shead with Dingli and Kurt Formosa, Alexander Ribic, Gilbert Scerri, Fabio Gauci, Mario Caruana u Rupert Mangion on Marsa side.

Until the break, Marsa were in control, leading 2-0. But in the second half we had a different story. Through the experience of their players Dingli went on the attack.

After getting level 2-2, the game was balanced with both sides determined not to let go. Dingli went in front 4-3. Marsa managed and deserved to get level.

However, they were unfortunate that immediately after, from the re-start Carlo Mamo scored a beauty, a winning goal for Dingli and a late unexpected blow for Marsa..

The main aim of the tournament was well achieved with teams trying new players and analyise the strentgh of their team. The tournament showed that al teams are well prepared and this augurs well when play give way to two interesting leagues this season.

The presentation of the cups and medals to both teams was made by Robet Massa and his wife, representing the sponsors of the tournament.

All teams now concentrate on the leagues, the top Mapfre/MSVLife Masters Premier League with the best six teams as such classified last season and the Cisk Masters Division One League with seven teams. The promotion and relegation system will be used.
