HIBS LAUNCH PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE DEFENCE IN STYLE
Hibernians launched their Premier League title defence in emphatic style with a comprehensive 4-0 victory against St. Andrews at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Hamrun.
Hibernians 4-0 St. Andrews The premier league holders opened the scoring after eight minutes into the match when they were awarded a penalty from which captain Clayton Failla made no mistake. On 40 minutes the Paolites doubled their lead when defender Andre Agius headed past goalkeeper Calleja Cremona from a Jackson Lima Siqueira’s corner. After the break on 59 minutes made it 3-0 thanks to Jackson Lima Siqueira, while on 76 minutes scored their fourth when they were given another penalty, from which Clayton Failla beat for the second time the Saints goalkeeper. Tarxien Rainbows 1-4 Hamrun Spartans In the other late match Hamrun Spartans beat Tarxien Rainbows 4-1, with their first goal coming through an own goal by Matthew Spiteri, while on 42 minutes Francisco Manoel Clavero Chico grabbed the second. On verge of half-time Tarxien pulled one back through Ryan Darmanin, who on 60 minutes was red-carded after collecting his second bookable offence. On 80 minutes the Spartans restored their two-goal lead thanks to Arthur Faria Machado, while 10 minutes later made it 4-1 thanks to Pedro Henrique Oliveira.
