GZIRA HIT FOUR PAST LIJA

Gzira United couldn’t have a perfect start to their new Premier League season when beating new arrivals Lija Athletic 4-0, while in another match Birkirkara and Floriana played out a 1-1 draw on Friday.

The new arrivals couldn’t have a worst start to the new season as after six minutes into the match were reduced to ten man when defender Patrick Borg collected his second yellow card and so was sent off.

In time added on of the first half the Maroons broke the deadlock when substitute Amadou Samb headed past Lija’s goalkeeper Luke Bonnici from a perfect cross by Karl Pulo.

After the break Gzira on 75 minutes doubled their lead through Andre White, while two minutes Samba Tounkara received a perfect pass from substitute Roderick Briffa who dribbled past goalkeeper Bonici to shot home and grab his side’s third.

Meanwhile on 80 minutes the Maroons made it 4-0 when Amadou Samb grabbed his second of the evening.

Birkirkara 1-1 Floriana

It was Floriana who forged ahead when on 18 minutes Mario Fontanella beat the Stripes goalkeeper Philip Schranz.

But the Greens didn’t enjoy their lead very much as six minutes later it was all-square when Birkirkar leveled the matters courtesy of Bruno Andrade de Brito.

On 71 minutes Birkirkara finished with ten man when substitute Edmond Agius was shown his second yellow card and was sent off for an early shower.
