HIBS SEE OFF TALLINN

Two second-half goals handed Hibernians an important 2-0 win over FCI Tallinn in the first leg of their first qualifying round of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

But it was the visitors who had a great chance to forge ahead when after three minutes were awarded a penalty from which Kirill Nesterov saw Hibs custodian Andrew Hogg block his shot.

On 29 minutes Tallinn went very near once again to open the score but Pavel Domov’s shot hit the bar.

Then after the break the Malta champions broke the deadlock on 62 minutes when Brazilian striker Jorge Pereira Da Silva headed past the Estonian goalkeeper Matvei Igonen.

Eleven minutes later the Paolites doubled their advantage when defender Aleksand Volodin inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

The return match between Hibernians and FC Tallinn will be on Tuesday, on 4 July.
