VALLETTA HIT FOUR PAST PEMBROKE

Valletta maintained the pace with the leading duo after a 4-0 win over bottom placed Pembroke Athleta, while in the other match Sliema Wanderers beat neighbours Gzira United 1-0.

The Citizens opened the scoring after 26 minutes into the match when Luke Montebello Luke beat goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona.

After the break on 56 minutes the reigning champions doubled their advantage courtesy of Maximiliano Velasco.

Valletta added two other with the third coming on 75 minutes through Uchenna Calistus Umeh, while nine minutes later substitute Michael Mifsud grabbed the fourth.

In the other fixture Sliema Wanderers had to wait until very late into the match to score the match winner when on 89 minutes Gabriel Aquilina beat the Maroons goalkeeper.
