BALZAN BACK ON TOP

Balzan Youths took over at the top of the Premier League in style after a 5-2 win over bottom side Pembroke Athleta on Sunday.

Balzan forged ahead after 11 minutes into the match when Alan Souza Da Silva beat Pembroke’s custodian Fredrick Tabone.

But the Youths didn’t enjoy their lead very much as seven minutes later Go Nagaoka leveled the matters for Athleta.

Three minutes before half-time Balzan restored their one-goal advantage when Alan Souza Da Silva scored his second of the afternoon.

Fifteen minutes after the break Alan Souza Da Silva grabbed his hat-trick, while on 65 minutes league leading scorer Bojan Kaljevic scored his side’s fourth and his 19th goal this season.

Balzan continued to dominate their opponents and in fact on 75 minutes increased their lead once again thanks to Matteo Picciolo to make it 5-1.

On 83 minutes Pembroke pulled one back when a Daren Falzon direct free-kick beat Balzan’s goalkeeper Cassar.

In the other match Valletta hit four past second from bottom Mosta to consolidate their third place in the standings.

The reigning champions goals came through a brace from Maxi Velasco on 37 minutes and after the break on 68 minutes and another double from substitute Luke Montebello, two minutes before half-time and on 83 minutes.
